Male Prima Donna

By Kris, November 8, 2009 11:45 am

If you aren’t a fan of The Office, get off my blog, or don’t bother with this post. So a few of the workers joined forces and created a music video, and I can’t get the song out of my head. It’s not my style of music, at all, but it’s still addicting.

Now, try to not go throughout the rest of your day without thinking of the song, or getting it caught in your head. It’s not easy.

The Upgrade

By Kris, November 7, 2009 9:43 am

So yesterday I finally made the upgrade to Windows 7. It took a very long time, even though it could have taken us not long at all. But that’s besides the point. Windows 7 looks great and, from what I can tell, isn’t any slower than XP was for me. It seems pretty equal, only with the great visual differences. I’m actually writing this using Windows Live Writer or something, which lets me type the blog posts without having to deal with WordPress directly. I can just open, type, and publish. I’ve noticed it for XP, but I never thought to try it out. I’m glad I’m using it now.

Probably my favorite tool that I see in Windows 7 (and apparently Vista has it, too) is the Snipping Tool, which not only allows me to take screenshots, but actually select which part of the screen I take the shot of. Here’s a picture I took using it. It’s just the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.

I’m also including the image to test out how well Writer works with images and whatnot.

Later on today I’m going over to Lindsay’s house, but until then I have to catch up and re-install a bunch of programs I had back when I used XP.

Left 4 Dead 2

By Kris, November 3, 2009 6:13 pm

My review of the upcoming game (coming out on November 17), Left 4 Dead 2 (the demo).

Okay, so I got on Steam after school, and I turned on Steam. I check the Steam Updates, and there’s nothing new, so I get bored already and listen to music. Suddenly, I remember an old Steam account I used to use a lot. So I reset the password on it and logged back in (the last login was almost 400 days ago). I get a bunch of new Steam Updates, as well as an offer to download the Left 4 Dead 2 demo, so I do, obviously. I then logged into the other account and also got the offer to play it, so here’s how it all went for me:

I’m just going to start off by saying that the graphics and details in the game are much better than the original L4D. My computer actually struggled to play on default settings, which hasn’t happened since…well…Crysis.

  • Visual: As I just said, the graphics have greatly improved, that, or my computer’s gotten slower over the months. Everything looks crisper and cleaner looking. There’s also some neat effects with melee weapons, like the machette. If you kill a zombie with it (usually by removing a limb or two) your screen gets splattered with blood, similar to that of Gears of War, only not quite as annoying.
  • Gameplay: It’s very basic, very much like the previous L4D. It’s your simple, linear, point and shoot sort of game. I was fine with it then, and I’m still fine with it now.
  • Sounds: The sounds in L4D2 are what I’d expect from any other game. No sounds seem out of place or like they’re being used incorrectly. I do quite enjoy the sound when you hit a zombie with the guitar.
  • AI: The AI has greatly improved in the game. I’m not saying the AI in L4D wasn’t good originally, but L4D2 has even better AI. Although I do have to admit, the AI teammates can be sort of stupid. While playing for only a short amount of time, the AI actually would go ahead in the level without me, while I still killed zombies (although that might just be a glitch). Also, Coach is awesome.
  • Online: The whole house has had iffy connection all day, so I was lagging quite badly. I couldn’t finish a full game. So I guess I don’t have anything to say about this one.

Overall: The game is very much like the first one, but with some minor changes that make it worthy of being a new game, instead of just a very large expansion pack. I haven’t played around with it too much, but from what I’ve seen, it’s been very impressive :) Although, I think I’d rather spend my money on getting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (no hate, please).
