Bioshock 2
Now, mind you. There may be some tiny spoilers when I explain the storyline, but it’s nothing you won’t see after playing the game for 10 minutes.
My father pre-ordered this game about a week before it released, so we were both confident we’d get the game delivered to us the day of release. That wasn’t the case. In fact, we didn’t get it for 4 days, which wasn’t bad, but I always figured the point of pre-ordering games was to get it early, and for a good price. Next time I’ll just have to order it sooner, eh? (Warning: This next paragraph contains minor spoilers and may ruin your life.)
Before I tell you my thoughts, I’ll give a quick summary of the storyline for those of you who are unaware of what this game is about. First, you play the role of a Big Daddy, but
not just any Big Daddy, no. You play the role of the oldest Big Daddy in all of Rapture. You are a special Big Daddy (shown left), created before Rapture went downhill, and before the new, stronger Big Daddy’s were born. As an older Big Daddy, you are specially linked to 1 specific girl, whereas newer Big Daddy’s have been altered to have no real connection to the girls. The game opens with a cutscene of you and your little girl wandering Rapture (not long before the New Year, which is when Rapture goes crazy). The two of you go searching for Atom, carelessly walking through parties and whatnot. Suddenly, your little girl gets excited and runs off ahead of you. Surprised, you try to catch up with her, only to find her defending herself against some thugs (they weren’t quite Splicers yet, but soon to be). Then you come in to save the day, when one of the thugs throws a Big Daddy Controller at you (putting you under his control). Unable to move yourself, you watch a woman approach. She tells you to take off your helmet and to shoot yourself in the head. You do. The game jumps 10 years later (Rapture is in ruins), and you wake up, not knowing what is going on.
You quickly meet one of your worst enemies, the Big Sister (shown right). She is like a skinny Big Daddy on steroids. She jumps all over the place, throws stuff at you, and is nearly impossible to kill. Soon after meeting her, the storyline is unfolded (I won’t be spoiling anything else). You meet a familiar face from the original Bioshock (Tenenbaum), and together you work your way through Rapture, meeting new people, killing stuff, etc.
At this point I’d like to come out and say that, even thought it is a sequel, this game is better than Bioshock 1 (thus far). The story is still fantastic, the weapons are excellent. Everything about this game is just as nice as the original, and in many places, even better.
If you enjoyed Bioshock, then Bioshock 2 is definitely worth buying. If you are still skeptical, then at least rent it.
E: I have made a mistake, you are not an old Big Daddy. You are, in fact, one of the newer and more powerful Big Daddy’s in Rapture. My mistake, lol.
E2: I beat the game, it’s amazing.
I played this at my friend’s house, and I was quite impressed.
I’d buy this but I’m busy saving up for Fallout New Vegas
