Fair warning: This post may contain many computer terms that you will not understand. But then again, you might understand them.

Windows 7; the more I see it, the more I want it.

Windows 7

I see it all the time now, especially on the television. I can’t watch a single episode of King of the Hill or The Office without seeing at least 3 ads for Windows 7. Then, a couple days ago I thought it would be a good idea to look up Windows 7 on YouTube so I could see how it works. That was a mistake. It looks great, and it apparently fixes a lot of the issues I see on a daily basis with Windows XP. So I really want this OS, but there are some downsides.

As we progress technologically, people’s computers begin to advance and become more powerful with new video cards, new processors, and more RAM slots. As our computers advance, we feel the need to make everything take up more and more space and require more and more of your computers hardware. This especially with operating systems. Like Vista, Windows 7 is going to be a huge RAM whore. I don’t particularly like this. Sure, it will look amazing, and that’s one of the reasons I want it. But I enjoy playing games, and when you use Windows Vista or 7, the system requirements for games nearly doubles in RAM compared to gaming with XP. A game that might require 1GB in XP might require 2-3GB in Vista/7.

My computer is actually quite good, but I seriously lack RAM. I have hardware powerful enough to play games like Crysis on their highest settings, but I cannot because I seriously lack RAM. I only have 1GB of it. Now if I wanted to play games using Windows 7, while having on 1GB of RAM, it would not work out. I’d lag and freeze all the time.

So I’ve concluded that if I’m going to get Windows 7 in the future, I must first greatly upgrade my RAM, as well as buy a new computer case in order to fit all of the new RAM I will end up getting.

That concludes today’s post.
