Contra

Vampire-Weekend-Contra-314x314This is a review of the recently released album “Contra” by Vampire Weekend. Now, Vampire Weekend has been one of my favorite bands from back before they became as popular as they did (I caught on to them pretty early). Ever since I heard songs of theirs like “Oxford Comma” and “M79” I knew this band was excellent. Once I heard they were releasing a new album, I was very excited for it. After a short while, I forgot about it, only to remember it a few days after it actually released. So I got the album, listened to it a few times, and here are some of my thoughts:

I’d first like to come out and say that this album isn’t anything special. If anything, it’s a disappointment for Vampire Weekend. There are three songs (Horchata, Cousins, and I Think Ur a Contra) that have individuality and their own twist to the songs. The rest sound pretty identical, making the whole experience with the album nothing to get excited over. Those three previously mentioned songs are all excellent, if only the rest of the album could have that sort of variety…oh well. The album overall isn’t that bad, so if you happen to be a fan, obviously you should give it a look-see. If you’re new to Vampire Weekend, you should definitely check out their previous album first.

All in all…I’d give the album a solid 6/10. It’s nice, but not as nice as I have come to expect from Vampire Weekend. But hey, this is all just my own opinion.

Irrelevant: If you haven’t noticed, the theme has changed. Big thanks to Benje for coding up my design and making it work as well as it does. With this design (if you are going to be commenting) I highly suggest you sign up for a Gravatar account.

I’ve never been interested in Vampire Weekend, it’s just not my style of music.

Yeah, they have a pretty unique sound. My dad is the only other person I know that likes them.
